MICHAEL KELLMAN
Product Designer
In more than 15 years of working as a designer I've learned from my failures, analyzed my successes and absorbed the wisdom of those around me. My current recipe for success is to make sure that everyone on my product team shares a clear objective, understands the constraints and feels safe bringing their own ideas to the table while challenging mine.
About the photos: each one represents a little bit of who I am. The one above is from my backyard, the one below is my desk. The recent eclipse, waterfalls in Iceland, and a starry winter night in the mountains round things out.
PORTFOLIO
As a product designer I've left behind innumerable wireframes, mockups and interactive prototypes in the places I’ve worked. My fingerprints are on the style guides and asset libraries, but all those things fade away over time. Here’s what I hope I’m actually remembered for.
EXPERIENCE
WORKDAY
Principal Product Designer
2017 - Present (7 years)
I help bring great products and features into the world by embedding directly with scrum teams and being a true partner with engineering and product management. This working model has become more prevalent over time in part because I am able to consistently demonstrate success and mentor others in this way of working.
TRIO HEALTH
Creative Director, UX
2013 - 2017 (4 years)
I was the first UX hire for the startup, so I worked to establish a user-centric model of building products and fostered a tight working relationship with marketing and sales. I encouraged a practice of balancing user and customer needs to drive better patient outcomes.
IHS MARKIT
Associate Creative Director
2009 - 2013 (4 years)
As a self-taught designer working for the first time on a design team, I learned a lot. By the end, I was leading work for one of our largest clients, creating innovative in-house products and mentoring other designers.
TRANSLATIONS.COM
Product Manager / UX Designer
2006 - 2009 (3 years)
As a product manager, I saw a gap between what we were doing and what users actually needed. I tried to bridge that gap by teaching myself the basics of user experience design and sharing the knowledge with my team. This is where my love of UX design really began.
Here are some kind words that my colleagues have shared about me and the work we've done together.
